About Hardy

The story behind Hardy fishing rods and reels began in the early 1870s, when William Hardy and his brother started a gunsmithing business in Alnwick, Northumberland. Although they made a good living in northern England producing high-quality firearms, it wasn’t long before the brothers’ passion for fishing precipitated a change of direction for the company, and Hardy rods and reels were the result. Hardy was the first tackle company to build and market hexagonal bamboo rods and also introduced the first large-arbor reels in 1911. Hardy fishing gear, rods, reels and bags are simply some of the best.
